WEARizona: Showcasing Southwestern historical and contemporary fashion.
When people hear the exhibit is about Arizona’s fashion history, they respond with a quizzical look and the question “Does Arizona have a fashion history?”
Indeed it does!
The exhibit includes the iconic Patio dress, commonly referred to as a “squaw dress,” from the 1940s-1950s, a period of exponential growth in the number of residents and vacationers in Arizona. The dress became so popular that there were even newsreel films made about it and shown across the country.
There will also be some contemporary designers featured, as well as some educational programs going on throughout the month. Check out the schedule.
